Privacy Policy

This page explains what W2WNow keeps about you, why, and how to have it removed. We keep only what the site needs to work for you.

What we collect

  • Your account: your name, email address and password (stored scrambled, never readable), and — if you add them — the name shown on titles you add, your city, a profile photo, and your interests and favourites.
  • Your preferences: the platforms and languages you watch, and your city.
  • What you save and say: your watchlist, the titles you mark Watched or Skipped, your "Worth watching?" reactions and the one-line reasons you give.
  • What you add: titles you contribute, credited under the name you choose.
  • Emails you ask for: "Remind me" reminders (your email and the title) and the weekly email (your email, and for guests the platforms and languages chosen when signing up).
  • Friends: your friends list, the name and email of friends you invite, and the watch-night invites you send.
  • How you use the site, when signed in: titles you open, searches, filters and quick-mode answers, and when you last visited — used only to recommend titles to you and to show what's new since your last visit.

Cookies and browser storage

  • Session and security cookies keep you signed in and protect forms. They expire about two hours after the last page you open; if you tick "Remember me", a further cookie keeps you signed in for up to about 400 days, until you sign out. A small cookie (appearance, 1 year — also kept in browser storage) remembers light or dark mode.
  • w2w_prefs — the platforms and languages you picked as a guest, so pages open already filtered. 1 year.
  • w2w_lv — when you last opened the home page, for "Since your last visit". 1 year.
  • w2w_rx — a random code that ties your "Worth watching?" taps to this browser before you sign in. 1 year.
  • w2w_internal — only on the W2WNow team's own browsers: marks them so our visitor numbers leave the team out. About 2 years.
  • sidebar_state — on the account settings pages, whether the side menu is open. 7 days.
  • _ga and _ga_<id> — Google Analytics' cookies (see below): a random number that tells one browser's visits apart from another's, and the current visit. Google sets them for 2 years by default.
  • Browser storage (guests): w2w.prefs (your platforms and languages) and w2w.watchlist (titles you saved), plus a few small flags (reminders you've set, whether you've signed up to the weekly email, and which prompts you've already seen). These stay in your browser; your saved list is copied into your account when you sign up or log in.
  • Browser storage (everyone): w2w.ticker — whether the ticker under the header last showed Theatres or OTT, so it opens there next time. It stays in your browser. Right after you create an account, w2w.signup.tracked notes that the sign-up has been counted, so it isn't counted twice; it's gone when you close the tab.

W2WNow itself sets no advertising cookies: the promoted titles and banners on the site are our own, and we count how often they are shown and clicked on our own server. The only cookies that measure visits are Google Analytics' (below).

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages and features are used. Google runs it on our behalf. It receives:

  • the pages you view and where your visit came from — another website, a search engine, or a link we shared (those addresses carry a short tag saying where they were shared, such as WhatsApp or Instagram);
  • your device and browser type, and your approximate location, which Google works out from your connection;
  • three actions: an account being created (and how — by email), a Find W2WNow shortlist (how many titles it showed) and a click on a platform button on a title page (which platform, and which title).

It does not receive your name, your email address, your password or anything else you type into forms — except that the words you search for and your Find W2WNow answers are part of the page's address, so Google sees them with the page. We don't load Google Analytics on the password-reset page, whose address contains your email address.

Visits from the W2WNow team's own browsers are marked (the w2w_internal cookie above) so they can be left out of the figures. To stop Google Analytics on every website you visit, install Google's opt-out browser add-on.

What we do with your email

Only what you asked for: confirming your address, password resets, the reminders and weekly email you chose, a note when a title you added goes live, and an invitation a friend asked us to send you. Every reminder and weekly email has an unsubscribe link. We never sell your email or any of your data, and we share it only with the services listed under Third parties, which run parts of the site for us.

Third parties

  • TMDb and JustWatch are where our title and where-to-watch data comes from (see How we get our data). We don't send them anything about you; poster images load from TMDb's servers.
  • Google Analytics counts visits on our behalf — see Google Analytics above.
  • Our email delivery provider sends the emails above on our behalf.
  • Our hosting and DNS providers run the servers and the address the site lives at, and see the technical details any website sees (such as your IP address).
  • A web-font service serves the site's typefaces.

Deleting your account and data

You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Profile (at the bottom). That removes your account, profile photo, preferences, watchlist, Watched/Skipped marks, reactions, friends and weekly-email subscription. Titles you added stay on W2WNow without your name. Any "Remind me" reminders still waiting stay tied to your email until they're sent or you unsubscribe from the email — or write to us and we'll remove them. You can also ask us to delete anything at [email protected].
